Tiu Shau Ngam is located in Ma On Shan, it is a ridge leading to the Hunch Backs on its east and Ma On Shan Family Walking Trail on its west. Whereas the north ridge of Tiu Shau Ngam is one of the most challenging route to climb, it is most suitable for advanced cliff climbers, since there is not much steps but mostly vertical cliffs with huge rocks, which required skills, as well as massive physical strength.
We set off from Ma On Shan MTR Station , and walked towards Kam Ying Court on Kam Ying Road in the direction of Shun Yee San Tsuen. Then we walked along Ma On Shan Tsuen Road. Shortly after we crossed a lifted gate, we turned right where is a mud path and began our Journey to the North Ridge of Tiu Shau Ngam.
It was flat and gentle in the beginning (100m to 150m above sea level) with well instructed road signs and steps, residents nearby would come for morning workouts. Once we reached a pavilion, we turned left and followed ribbons and white markings (in the shape of big white dots or arrows) uphill. There was about 1/5 of the way muddy and sandy, while the other 4/5 was all about climbing.
*Even though there are ropes on the way up for climbing, I suggest not relying on them wholly. It is because they have been there for so long, hence may be worn out and loose.
*Cliffs are huge and lots are slippery, we must think twice before making our way with the help of the ropes if necessary.
Once we reached Tiu Shau Ngam, we made our way up to summits of both the Hunch Backs and Ma On Shan. It should be acknowledged that the ridge towards the summit of Ma On Shan were so long, some part of which were low in air pressure. Accompanied with the hot and moist climate, it would be extremely easy to faint.
After we came to the trigonometric point, we descended a steep and gravelly route and walked along the Maclehose Trail, except which we ascended to the summit of the Pyramid Hill for another inclination. After passing from Mau Ping Au, the Buffalo Pass, Scout Association of Hong Kong Gilwell Campsite to Tiu Tso Ngam, we were on Sha Tin Pass Road. Eventually, we walked around Temple Hill, passing both Shap Yi Wat Village Public Toilet and Fung Wong Fresh Water Service Reservoir, we came to the entrance of the Lion Rock Country Park. We descended until we arrived Wong Tai Sin MTR Station where we dismissed.
