Dragon back is a famous mountain ridge in the southeastern side of Hong Kong Island, which is absolutely suitable for beginner hikers, since its way has a combination of well-paved stairs, concrete roads and muddy roads, with gentle ups and downs. Well-directed road signs will guide you the way along section 8 of Hong Kong Trail!
I set off from the staircase in the park next to Fullview Garden, walked along Dragon Trail until Cape Collinson Road Rest Garden, where the junction joining up to Cape Collinson Road stood. Turning left is to Cape Collinson Correctional Institution, whereas turning right is to Cape Collinson Chinese Permanent Cemetery.
Here, I turned left, then started walking up Pottinger Peak Country Trail with around 500 steps. After those stairs, tourists who would like to take a rest at Pottinger Peak View Compass could turn left. Otherwise, similar to me, I walked straight in the direction of 'Ma Tong Au' where was a pavilion. Passing it would I be on Hong Kong Forest Track-Mount Collinson Section.
After a walk for fifteen to twenty minutes on concrete road, I came to a junction, where I followed road sign 'Dragon Back' uphill, from signpost H094 to H085. Its summit would be on Shek O Peak with a height of 284m above sea level, it was a nice spot of attraction. Another great viewpoint for photo-taking would be right before the Tomb of Mountain King, though accessible, was illegal to reach.
Ultimately, I walked down the stairs back to Shek O Road and travelled to Shau Kei Wan MTR Station by NWF Bus 9 from bus stop: To Tei Wan.
Bus Fare: Adult: $7.2; Child/Senior: $3.6
